HOLY SH!T!!

That was my reaction yesterday (said in my head) when I googled my name and my twitter page was the first listing that came up. Which made me immediately want to twitter what I found. You see I probably am the dumbest/most naive person when it comes to all things related to technology. Yesterday when I was at work I had to "repurpose" (aka write the same article over again but in my own words) an interesting (and helpful) article about how people are turning to social networking sites to help them with their job searches. At the end of the article it said how (obvi) you had to be careful about revealing too much online so a good way to do this would be to google your name.

A quick side note: when I registered for my twitter account I first used my real name however I then realized that I didn't want a lot of people finding me so that's when I changed it to my initials. When I checked my initials were saved in the profile section and they're what appeared on my page.

Anyway I don't know why my name still appeared connected with my twitter account when I googled my name but it did. Now I only had twitter for like two weeks and I didn't really put alot about my internship on it but when my supervisor was out on Monday I did put that I was getting distracted and spending time on twitter and blogger.....OOPS!

So I don't think anyone at work saw it but I FREAKED out anyway and immediately deleted my account. So I'm sure right now all of you are laughing your asses off that someone could possibly be that stupid but what can I say....I guess I AM that stupid! Anyhoo that is the reason I am no longer on Twitter. I might go back eventually but right now I don't think I can handle the power that comes with it hahaha

The other thing I wanted to mention is that this is my last post before Monday because I am off to Naples today...WOOOOHOOOO! I am SO excited and cannot wait! I am all pack and wanted to show pictures of what I'm taking but for some reason my cameras not uploading pictures right now...weird. I am taking wayyyy too much for the weekend but o well. I'm so happy because my supervisor said that I didn't have to go into work today so I have the morning off and am watching er reruns on TNT...my fav! I hope everyone has a great weekend and see you all on Monday!

  1. Let's talk about how scary that just is. I googled myself right after reading this and the first two pages were about me. From my Twitter account (listed first) to my blog, comments on other people's blog and anything I had including my email address on - even the summer swap. Pretty scary how easily people can find info on you. Granted even my grandmother has a facebook page so I don't worry about content (I don't put anything out there that I wouldn't feel comfortable with her seeing) but it still makes you feel very vulnerable.

    Have fun in Naples!!

  2. I get so distracted with those kind of things too. And it is kind of weird sometimes to know people can find you. The internet is so resourceful it's insane.

  4. I would have deleted my account too. I was private with my blog and went public for a week. I heard all this crazy stuff- went back to private and stop following many blogs..as I thought they might be have crazy followers. I totally freaked. So can understand. Now on to your fabulous weekend in Naples. Have a grand time...can't wait to see the pictures. We adore Naples and try to make it there at least once a year. The beaches are sick... love it there. Be safe & have a blast.

  5. So I decided to google myself... and the FIRST thing that came up was my twitter... I ended up changing my name under "settings" and now it doesn't come up...

Butttttttt.... Apparently my school website has my blog linked to it as a "student blog." I had NOO idea... I'm not sure how I feel about it.

  6. Google has this annoying ability to cache pages even after they have been deleted. I have found pages during a google search even after I deleted them. Definitely be careful about what you put out there.

One worrisome thing that I just discovered is that, when you google my name, someone else's facebook page comes up immediately. She has the same name as me, and her FB profile is less than flattering. I really hope no future employers ever think it's me!
